The bridal suit

2006, 35mm slide diascope projection.

Pomacs are a Slavic minority, isolated in north-eastern Greece. In one of my visits I was photographed wearing the traditional bridal suit, used until recently in Pomacian marital ceremonies. It was a symbolic act of inter-acceptance. I felt very intrusive at times and I would never use the pictures taken in a human moment as a documentation for species under extinction. Out of respect, I have chosen this T.V. shaped diascope as projector. The direct reference to the aesthetics of the ‘60s, underlies the anachronism within Greek society.
